Grief Therapy
What is Grief?
The pain of grief can feel unbearable and unfair and can be considered some of the worst suffering that a human being can experience. Whether you’ve lost a family member, a companion animal, a friend, a relationship, or some kind of physical functioning, adapting to loss of any kind can be an awful experience that can leave you feeling overwhelmed, hopeless and angry. This is to be expected, however it can have such a large impact on your life that it can feel unbearable.
There are many different symptoms of grief including sadness, anger, guilt, anxiety, loneliness, fatigue, helplessness, shock, yearning, relief, numbness, disbelief, confusion, preoccupation, sleep disturbances, appetite disturbances, and social withdrawal. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms in response to a loss, this is to be expected, however it can have such a large impact on your life that may require further support.
How I work with Grief
Grief and mourning is a completely natural process, and many people slowly work through grief without counselling. However, sometimes the grief process gets stuck, and counselling can help to keep moving it along. CBT and compassionate counselling can help an individual process and move through the Tasks of Mourning that individuals go through after a loss. If your grief symptoms persist and remain overwhelming and debilitating, please reach out for additional support.
